Try to shower or at least wash or clean up part of your body
Cleaning up a portion of your room (for example, just making your bed or just cleaning off your desk or putting away laundry) to make yourself feel better
Make a list of all the things you like about yourself (could be that you like your eyes, the colour of your hair, the shape of your body, how you’re really good at math, how you give good hugs, how you’re nice, how you like a cool thing your body can do, etc. There’s basically no limits.). Try and list at least 5 things. Or as many as you can. Then put the list up somewhere (such as hanging on your wall or sitting on your nightstand) where you can go back and look at it and remind yourself of the things you like about yourself when you’re feeling down.
Make a list of all the good things that have happened today. It does not matter how seemingly small or dumb. Try and list at least 5, if not more. Could be something as simple as : my lunch was yummy today, I took a shower, someone complimented me, I did laundry, my phone stayed charged all day, I had a good dream last night, I felt attractive today, I got to text someone I like today, I didn’t hurt myself today, I wasn’t overly clumsy today, I finished an assignment today, I did ok at my job today, I didn’t relapse, no one was mean to me today, etc. Or even just : I’m still alive. Even if you wish you weren’t, it’s still a good thing. Even if things are tough now, chances are, they’ll get better in the future. You just need to keep fighting.
Rub an ice cube on your inner wrist
Rub an ice cube on the back of your neck or put a cold, wet washcloth on the back of your neck.
Positive Things
Sometimes we get so caught up in the bad things in life, that we lose sight of the good things! Whether that be positive things in life or just things to be proud of yourself for! It’s important to focus on the good things that happen, especially if you aren’t in such a great place right now. Whether that means mentally not in a great place or that your living situation is less than ideal. Shifting our focus onto the positives can help improve mental health and can help keep you going when times are tough. So here’s a small list of some positive things. See if any of them describe you / happened to you today or recently.
Have you eaten today?
Have you drank water today?
Have you drank juice today?
Have you drank coffee today?
Have you had a favourite drink today?
Have you had a favourite food today?
Did you manage to eat at least 3 meals today?
Did you manage to eat even one meal today?
Did you try a new food or drink recently?
Have you learned a new makeup thing?
Have you gotten any new things recently?
Have you made or built or written any new things recently?
Are you working on making or building or writing something?
Have you gone for a walk recently?
Have you taken care of your pets (if you have pets) recently?
Have you done chores recently?
Have you relapsed recently?
Are you working on or through recovery?
Are you doing well in school or at work?
Have you seen your favourite person or people lately?
Have you seen or played a favourite movie, show, game, whatever recently?
Have you done anything fun recently?
Do you plan to do anything fun?
Has anyone complicated you recently?
Have you been trying to engage in or get better at self care?
Have you been trying to better yourself and/or heal?
Have you been going to therapy (if you’re able)?
Have you been healing?
Have you done anything cool or interesting lately?
Have you been taking care of yourself and/or others?
Have you been raising anyone or anything? (Pets, kids, siblings, animals, etc)
Have you kept yourself and/or others safe or mostly safe?
Have you been protecting those you love?
Have you gotten out of a bad relationship?
Have you been trying to get out of a bad relationship?
Have you managed to stay alive this long?
Have you gotten any praise recently?
Have you gotten any prizes, awards, whatever recently?
Have you eaten or made anything yummy or well recently?
Have you done laundry recently?
Have you made your bed or cleaned any part of your room recently?
Have you gone to the bathroom today?
Have you gotten any new stuffed animals or toys or electronics recently?
Have you brushed or flossed or used mouth wash recently?
Have you done any chores recently?
Have you been staying clean or been trying to?
There’s more things than that, but I’ll stop there. My point is, be proud of yourself and keep on fighting and trying. You will make it through this. Try and focus on the positives and things you’ve achieved, no matter how small or insignificant they may seem.
